Storyline
In this very first interactive animated DC movie, you get to determine Jason Todd's destiny. Will Jason Todd survive or die? What will happen to Batman and the Joker? Will there actually be a death in the Bat Family? The solution will be in your hands. Choose carefully.
Under Review
Batman is one of those comic heroes that are not hesitant to venture into darker, more adult themes. A Death In The Family is one of them, and it is notable because readers really got to pick the finale, which entailed whether or not Jason Todd, who was the bearer of the Robin mantle at the time, survived or died. It has garnered its fair share of attention and condemnation for the end product. This movie is an adaptation of the narrative as well as a follow-up to 2010's Batman: Under The Red Hood (since the actors from that film repeat their roles in this one) (as the cast from that film reprises their roles in this one).
Keeping with the interactive component of the comic, the movie is done to the point where it enables you to make decisions that modify the tale. Before the video begins, the movie delivers instructions on how to choose choices (although happily, it can be avoided for those who watch it again or don't want instructions). The movie, for the most part, contains fresh material mixed in with what seems like moments culled from Under The Red Hood. Immediately, this may be perceived as terrible, since the UTRH sequences are tragically merely copy-and-pasted into the film, without any improvements to take advantage of the R classification this film obtained. Basically, when you come to the time when you select Robin's destiny, you receive three options (that is, assuming you're viewing the Blu-Ray. The digital copy does not feature the interactive section). If you take the Robin Dies method, all you get is a repetition of the film (only with Bruce Wayne/Batman narrating). Also, there is not much involvement in this movie. Two of the pathways do not enable you to select to modify the tale, while one contains most of the interaction, which regrettably hurts this more.
Because of these difficulties, the movie is too short (the longest being a half-hour), making this an unimpressive picture. The only positive thing about this is John DiMaggio does a fantastic job portraying The Joker, but this interactive video is disappointing and a waste of the $18 I got it for at Walmart. Avoid this and search for something better, like Batman: Under The Red Hood (which is considerably better in its original version) (which is way better in its original form).
